Rub?n Blades Y son Del Solar Live! is one of my favourite CD. Absolute masterpiece in terms of latin/pop. Intense and intricate arrangements and engaged lyrics. I like the intensity of "Cuentas del Alma" and the nice 6/8 to cascara transition in "El Padre Antonio".
It was how I was introduced to Robbie Ameen.
This CD was playing all the time in the shipping warehouse of DCI Video where I was working part-time while at Drummers Collective in 1991 (just downstairs from DC). Robbie is a genius for fitting kit in trad percussion section. Before Robbie, Rub?n had only percs in his band and didn't want to hear about drums. Somebody insisted that he should had muscle to his music and to check Robbie out. It clicked!

Also check out Seis Del Solar. It's the backup band of Rub?n playing Afro-Cuban fusion. The CD "Alternate roots" is a MUST and Robbie smokes on it!
